“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer.” added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.Pantone Site 2022
What does all of this mean and why do we care? Well, it definitely helps shape the trends for the year. I love the little sneak peek into what we may see on the runways and how it’ll translate into every day life.
We all know I’m (Elle) not a huge fan of lots of color- I prefer my personality to be my color, but there is something very charming about this intense periwinkle. I even got a chance to see a color I wouldn’t usually think to wear in Fall and Winter color combinations (below).
That’s why I love to check it out every year. It gives me a learning experience and I can take a moment to step back and look at how color can represent what’s happening in the world. It’s just one more reason why fashion isn’t as shallow as we sometimes allow it to be.
